Syracuse Research Corporation Honored with Second Human Resources Donlon Award

SYRACUSE, NY, November 22, 2006 – For the second year in a row, United Way’s Success By 6 and CNY Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) has awarded Syracuse Research Corporation (SRC) with a Donlon Award for their outstanding commitment to create a family-friendly workplace. The Donlon and Excellence Awards are given to companies throughout the region recognizing these organizations as Employers of Choice in Central New York.

President and CEO Bob Roberts said, “SRC is honored to be recognized as a leading employer in CNY. We strive to make our employees feel that work-life balance is not only possible, but encouraged. The secret to our success is great people and we are committed to offering the best benefits and environment for our employees.”

SRC’s strong balance between employees’ personal and work lives is necessary for the success of employees and the company as a whole. Family supportive policies of SRC include: flexible scheduling options, wellness activities, eldercare support groups, an employee discount program which includes reduced-price tickets to local family events and attractions, reduced cost memberships to local health facilities, and a regular section in the company’s quarterly newsletter that addresses topics concerning the work/life balance.

Established in 1998, the Donlon Award was named for William Donlon, former CEO of Niagara Mohawk Power Corporation and first Chairman of the Success By 6 Policy Council. The program is supported by the Manufacturers' Association of Central New York, the Greater Syracuse Chamber of Commerce, and the Metropolitan Development Association.

About Success By 6

Success By 6 originated in Minneapolis, Minnesota in 1989 from a partnership between Honeywell Industries and United Way of Minneapolis. Initially, they were concerned about the quality of the local labor pool and realized that creating employable adults actually begins by investing in children during their early, most inquisitive years. In 1991, Bill Donlon (then President and CEO of Niagara Mohawk) and Mary Ann Shaw (then associate to the Chancellor of Syracuse University) sought to improve the lives of children in our community, who suffered a high infant mortality rate and a low immunization rate. To help combat these issues, Donlon and Shaw began a local Success By 6 in Syracuse, NY. For more information, go to www.unitedway-cny.org.

Syracuse Research Corporation Awarded Three TACNY Awards

SYRACUSE, NY, May 16, 2006 – Syracuse Research Corporation (SRC) has recently been awarded three technology awards from the Technology Alliance of Central New York (TACNY): Technology Company of the Year; Project of the Year, Counter RCIED; and Young Technologist of the Year, Benjamin Greenblatt. TACNY’s awards recognize and celebrate the achievements of Central New York (CNY) individuals, educators, companies and projects, highlighting CNY as a rewarding place to learn and work.

The Technology Company of the Year is awarded to a CNY technology organization that has made outstanding contributions to new and/or innovative products, processing technologies, or productivity leading to enhanced business. SRC’s employment has been steadily expanding from 224 employees to 750, a 220% growth, in the past 10 years. The increased business is the result of satisfied customers that rely on our expertise and continue to pose new challenges that our talented staff resolve. Advanced research and development is utilized to enhance products through technological innovations. We have programs that have continued to evolve for many years including a database for the Intelligence Community, assessment reports for the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and radar development for the Department of Defense (DoD).

Project of the Year is awarded to a current technological project, invention, or process designed, invented, or constructed in CNY. SRC takes home this honor for its efforts against RCIED’s, better known as roadside bombs. RCIED’s are the number one killer used by enemy insurgents in Iraq today. There is a need for field-programmable electronic countermeasures system designed to provide force protection against RCIED detonation ambushes, and SRC’s technology is addressing that need.

TACNY’s Young Technologist of the Year is Benjamin Greenblatt. This award is presented to a Central New Yorker, less than 35 years old, who has made recent outstanding contributions to advances and improvements in a technological field not limited to engineering. With only five years experience, Mr. Greenblatt has quickly become one of SRC’s top digital design engineers. He is not only responsible for the design, implementation, integration, and testing of state-of-the-art digital subsystems, but also for directing other young engineers as well.

Syracuse Research Corporation Receives $138M Contract

SYRACUSE, NY, February 28, 2006 – The U.S. Army has awarded a $138 million delivery order to Syracuse Research Corporation (SRC) to produce, field and support a next-generation capability against Remote Control Improvised Explosive Devices (RCIED) known as Counter RCIED Electronic Warfare Increment Two.

The program will provide an affordable capability against a broad spectrum of RCIED threats with a design that is sufficiently flexible to allow for future capability growth. The contract for additional systems is intended to meet an urgent operational need for a field-programmable electronic countermeasures system designed to provide force protection against RCIED detonation ambushes.

RCIEDs, better known as roadside bombs, are the number one killer used by enemy insurgents in Iraq today. Both U.S. Senator Hillary Clinton and U.S. Congressman James T. Walsh are strong supporters of this program and have assisted to move this program forward. SRC has hired dozens of new personnel and has also leased space to allow increased production for this and other contracts.

"Syracuse Research Corporation is a Central New York company that is making an important impact on many levels," Senator Clinton said. “Their ingenuity to solve this problem is a testament to the high quality people that SRC employs. They are growing rapidly and helping to expand the local economy by offering unique technical employment opportunities.” Congressman Walsh added, “We fully support not only this and other programs of national significance, but are encouraged by the manufacturing jobs that these efforts bring to the area.”

This contract is a four-year Indefinite Delivery/Indefinite Quantity-type contract arrangement, including Firm-Fixed Price for production systems plus Time & Materials for follow-on training, field support, vehicle installation, maintenance, and system upgrades. This is the third delivery order placed against the $550M contract ceiling, for a total of $275M so far.

The program is sponsored by the Joint IED Defeat Organization which coordinates all counter IED efforts within the Department of Defense, while concurrently engaging other outside sources of potential solutions, to defeat current and future IED threats that continue to endanger Joint and Coalition forces.

SRC, a not-for-profit, independent, research and development organization headquartered in Syracuse, New York, provides innovative, objective solutions for the Department of Defense, including the Intelligence Community, as well as to Civil customers such as the Environmental Protection Agency. For almost 50 years, SRC has developed a “trusted advisor” reputation and has been a leader in technology programs of national significance. The breadth and depth of SRC’s technology programs cover the full technology transition spectrum, from research to development of advanced prototypes, and from advanced prototypes to real solutions in operational environments.

SRC currently has over 125 jobs posted for all of its locations. SRC’s career opportunities can be viewed on the company website at www.syrres.com/career. Today, the company employs more than 725 people, with eleven offices across the United States.
