The MACNY/OSHA Alliance Safety Awards Program recognizes companies’ efforts to significantly improve safety programs throughout the past year.

“I would like to congratulate SRCTec on this well-deserved honor,” stated Randy Wolken, President of MACNY. “SRCTec’s dedication to their employees’ safety is impressive, and their safety program serves as a model for others in the industry. We are proud of SRCTec’s continued achievements, and to have them as a member of our organization.”

'Greener Tomorrow' initiative fits well with Syracuse Research Corporation

Contact: Thomas Coat

Syracuse, NY, June 18, 2008 – When the most participants since 2001 - more than 6,700 - gather June 24 for the 26th running of JPMorgan Chase Corporate Challenge at Syracuse, one of the companies that will fit into the scene on the shores of Lake Onondaga will be Syracuse Research Corporation.

It has been that way for more than a decade, and this year, SRC's fit with the world's largest corporate running/walking series is stronger than ever.

One reason is that in 2008, the Corporate Challenge launched its “Teaming Up for a Greener Tomorrow” initiative, whose goal is to reduce the event's impact on the environment by using eco-friendly practices. For example, registration in Syracuse was exclusively online, saving paper. Most of the materials used by race organizers on-site are recyclable. And, shuttle transportation to Onondaga Lake Park is being offered.

That fits SRC and its wholly owned subsidiary, SRCTec, Inc., to a tee. In fact, the environmental focus is a welcome bonus to which the company and its employees can strongly relate, says Lisa Mondello, Corporate Communications Manager at SRC.

An independent, not-for-profit research and development organization, SRC provides solutions to programs of national significance – from defense to the environment - through the application of science, technology, and information. At SRC, explains Mondello, eco-friendly policies and practices are so ingrained in the culture that a group of engineers and scientists formed a voluntary committee to come up with ways to help the environment. Today at SRC, water filters have been installed to reduce the need for employees to buy plastic water bottles, washable cups are used in the cafeteria to reduce paper use, each employee has a recycling bin at their office or desk, and other green practices are encouraged.

In addition to such “little” things, SRC has one of the biggest testaments to greening in the Syracuse area. Its 121,000 square foot facility at 7502 Round Pound Road is expected to shortly be the first building of its size in Central New York to earn the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) for new construction certification by the U.S. Green Building Council. The eco-friendly headquarters has the capability to self-sustain for up to 24-hours; utilizes advanced lighting technology and energy efficient heating and cooling systems; and much more.

“Any event that promotes corporate wellness and camaraderie is one that we want to support,” said Mondello, “and when you add the environmental focus this year, that's terrific. It all fits together so that the Corporate Challenge has it all for us. We're very happy to be involved.

“I think the environmental focus at SRC just stems from the type of people who work here,” added Mondello. “ Central New York is a great place to raise a family and we're all concerned about the environment.”

On Tuesday, SRC, named one of New York 's best companies at which to work in 2007, will be at the Corporate Challenge with a team of almost 100 that will be wearing employee-designed T-shirts. After participating in the 3.5-mile run/walk, they'll enjoy the social component of the event with a company tent featuring catered food.

And, this year, they will also enjoy the bonus of being part of an event that is showcasing a cause near to their hearts - “Teaming Up for a Greener Tomorrow.”

It is a great fit.

Syracuse Research Corporation Achieves CMMI Level 3

Syracuse, NY, June 12, 2008 – Syracuse Research Corporation’s Requirements Management Products and Services Area, a division of the Information Science and Engineering Center, has achieved Capability Maturity Model® Integration Level 3 from the Carnegie Mellon University Software Engineering Institute.

CMMI is a process improvement approach that provides organizations with the essential elements of effective processes. CMMI expands the former CMM model, integrating Systems and Software Engineering best practices. This is a major milestone for SRC as it is a very rigorous quality standard, one that can only be achieved over time and with demonstrated consistency in performance. As a result, projects that follow SRC’s CMMI-compliant processes will see cost reductions, shorter product development times, and increased productivity and quality. Achieving CMMI Level 3 will allow SRC to meet requirements for bidding larger contracts for the Intelligence Community and other Government entities.

Syracuse Research Corporation "LEEDS" Central New York's Environmental Efforts

Syracuse, NY, April 16, 2008 – Since opening the new corporate headquarters in early-2007, Syracuse Research Corporation has been making headway on many environmentally-friendly endeavors. Most importantly, they are in the last stages of achieving the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design for New Construction certification by the U.S. Green Building Council – one of the largest of its kind in Central New York.

Bob Roberts, SRC’s President and Chief Executive Officer, stated, “SRC’s mission to keep America safe and strong by protecting its people, environment, and way of life translates into being environmentally proactive in the communities in which we live, work, and play. We are very accomplished in environmental risk assessments and making recommendations for improved human health related to environmental concerns. One way we strive to ensure our country’s future is to help others realize the damaging environmental impact they can make. Another is to engage the community in efforts like the Earth Day clean-up.”

SRC’s headquarters will be the first and only, to date, building of its size in CNY achieving LEED certification – only 978 buildings worldwide are LEED for New Construction certified. SRC’s 121,000 square foot facility, located at 7502 Round Pound Road, North Syracuse, New York, has the capability to self-sustain for up to 24-hours; utilizes advanced lighting technology and energy efficient heating and cooling systems; and much more. SRC expects to be within the national average savings range for environmentally-friendly construction of $50-$65 per square foot throughout the initial 20-years of the Round Pond Road Facility. Not only has SRC begun the final stages for LEED certification, but it is also qualified for “energy conservation” credits from New York State Energy Research and Development Authority.

In addition to constructing an eco-friendly headquarters, SRC also strongly encourages environmental best practices among its employees. To start, SRC collaborates with Waste Management and Onondaga County Resource Recovery Agency to recycle bottles and cans, cardboard, construction material, compact discs, batteries, etc. Each employee also has their own recyclable bin at their desks or in their offices. SRCTec, Inc., SRC’s high-tech manufacturing subsidiary, is also making waves among CNY’s green elitist. They were recently ranked as one of the “Top 10 Recyclers” by the CNY Business Exchange (February/March 2008), based on statistics and a recommendation from OCRRA for their recycling efforts and improvements made throughout the past year.

“Companies like Syracuse Research Corporation encourage others to make a difference – they show that incorporating environmentally-friendly activities into the workplace is easily achievable. OCRRA particularly salutes the efforts of SRC in improving their bottle and can recycling program in their cafeteria and conference rooms,” said Sarah Stewart, Recycling Specialist at OCRRA.

The company has also recently introduced the Environmental Committee to heighten awareness of “green” initiatives and other best practices that protect the environment, in general. The committee offers seminars, events, and speakers to educate employees on how to be eco-conscious in their everyday lives and while at work. The group also created a Web page on the company intranet to educate employees. Some initiatives of the committee are to offer recycling of ink jet printer cartridges, cell phones, DVDs, MP3 players, and digital cameras. SRC employees will also host an Environmental Fair the day before Earth Day and they will participate in the Annual Earth Day Cleanup on April 26.

Syracuse Research Corporation Receives $4.4M Contract for Spiral 3.2 CREW Development

Syracuse, NY, February 6, 2008 – The Naval Sea Systems Command has awarded Syracuse Research Corporation a $4.4 million contract for the design, development, and delivery of Spiral 3.2 Mounted Counter Radio-Controlled Improvised Explosive Device (RCIED) Electronic Warfare (CREW) systems.

Congressman James T. Walsh, a strong supporter of the CREW program, stated, "SRC is at the forefront of solving some of the most daunting challenges facing our troops today. They continue to help grow Central New York’s economy, providing jobs in the technology and manufacturing industries, while also providing the DoD with solutions that are saving lives."

Spiral 3.2 CREW systems are vehicle mounted electronic jammers designed to prevent the initiation of RCIEDs, better known as roadside bombs. This contract is for the rapid development and demonstration of CREW technology and systems to counter the evolving IED threats and provide greater flexibility in meeting the CREW mission. This development will address the worldwide threat as well as the Central Command Area of Responsibility, and the urgent needs identified for emerging threats. The contract will also advance CREW technology and bridge the capability gap between current systems and future systems. The Navy manages the joint CREW program for Office of the Secretary of Defense, Joint IED Defeat Organization (JIEDDO).

SRC’s products have played a critical role in reducing the number of IEDs detonated in the field. Its first generation Counter Measure Protection System was one of the U.S. Army’s Top 10 Inventions in 2005, and SRC’s “Duke” counter IED system is the Army’s primary CREW system in the field today. Bob Roberts, President and CEO, stated, “We’ve put our top technical minds on the challenge of addressing this problem. Through an internally funded independent research and development project, we were able meet or surpass the technical requirements of this latest request and look forward to providing a system to the military that will continue to save lives.”
